What to Expect

This is a celebration of you! Your comfort is the most important part of your Curves Boudoir session. Clients are treated with total respect and we want you to feel beautiful head to toe.

I’m excited and honored that you’re considered booking a boudoir session with Curves Boudoir studio. My goal is to be the premier boudoir studio in Hampton Roads, Virginia and I want your experience to be fantastic! I love photographing women and over the past eight years as a portrait photographer came to specialize in boudoir, beauty, maternity and high school senior sessions - the types of photography in which the focus was on making women of all ages look and feel beautiful.

Hair & Makeup:

I believe makeup and hair are an essential part of a successful Curves Boudoir session. These are not cellphone photos, you want to do it up right! My hand-picked makeup artists are professionally trained and I work with only the best in the area. They will not only make you look good but they’re fun to work with – they’ll help you relax and make you feel pampered on the day of your shoot!

How it works:

Before your shoot

I’ve been photographing boudoir sessions for more than five years and I pass my experience on to you! I will help you prepare for your session. I provide every client with tips for how to get ready for their session as soon as they’ve confirmed their session with the reservation fee and client info form. From when to get a spray tan to what to wear to your session, this will answer all of those questions you have been wondering about!

I also recommend that clients do their own “homework.” Start a board on Pinterest with photos of clothing, makeup looks and poses that inspire you. You can share your board with me if you’d like (my pinterest username is “amysandoval”) – make your board private if your session is a secret! You may also want to scan magazines and catalogs – fashion magazines and catalogs like Victoria’s Secret can give you posing ideas.

You will also complete a client information form that helps me get to know a lot more about you, your session vision and your favorite body parts and those you might consider "problem" areas!

The day of your session

Are you nervous? Most clients are! Some tell me they didn’t sleep the night before. They’re nervous about taking good photos. They tell me they DON’T KNOW HOW TO POSE! (That’s by far the most common thing I hear!) But please don’t worry – we are here to make you feel comfortable and to help you look sexy and gorgeous.

Experience has taught me that the clients who can relax once they’ve arrived – who trust the makeup artist with their makeup and who trust me with their session – their photos always exceed their expectations!

When you arrive for your session, you’ll get started with makeup and hair. We’ll provide you with a mimosa, throw on some fun music and the makeup artist will make you look gorgeous! If you are at a home studio session I will also be chatting with you during this time about your wardrobe and accessories. I will make notes about poses and what order to photograph your outfits in. If it’s a mini marathon I may be working with another client while you’re in makeup and hair – but rest assured you will have that time with me to talk about your wardrobe and poses once you’re done with makeup and hair.

Note: Many clients worry that the makeup seems too heavy. We encourage you to not worry too much about this unless you feel strongly about a very natural look. Boudoir makeup is heavier by it's very nature in part because the light, the camera and my processing will "wash away" some of what you see on your face. Most clients love their photos even if they felt the makeup in person was a little heavy - try not to worry. :)

During the shoot

I guide 99% of my clients through every pose during their shoot. Please don’t feel like you need to know how to model. I don’t work with models! The women on my website are just like you and felt the same nerves and worries – but look at them – they look like they know what they’re doing, right? That will be you also.

I will have certain poses in mind for your wardrobe and body type and I like to try new poses with each client. We’ll also refer to your inspiration photos if you bring them or to Pinterest. Don’t worry about posing or feeling “funny” – it becomes comfortable for most of my clients within five minutes of getting started! (Besides, you will be laughing at me as I trip over things, fall backwards while focusing so hard to get just the perfect angle, etc. I’m a trip while shooting!)

I play music and we chat between frames, too. It’s informal and fun.  Honest. We end every session with a few frames of “white sheet” photos – these are implied nude shots of you in just white sheets. They’re sexy, subtle and I’ve never had a client who didn’t adore her white sheet photos.

Also – sessions are absolutely private. Your photos will not be shared anywhere without your explicit permission. The only people present for your session are the makeup/hair artist and myself – and at times a female assistant.

After the shoot 

About 10 days to two weeks after your shoot, I will send you a link to your online password-protected gallery to view your final images. You will have 7 days to complete your order and pay for it (or make a payment within your payment plan).

If you purchase digital files, they will be made available upon payment via instant download by online gallery.  This saves the environment – no need for large volumes of discs – and saves you time as you can instantly download your images as soon as you’ve paid for them! This can be very helpful if you’re on a tight turn-around to create something special for your loved one.

If you’ve purchased other items such as an album, canvas or prints, we’ll go over your order together and you will see a proof of the item before it goes out to be created. A week to two weeks later, your gorgeous purchases will arrive at your doorstep.

Of course I do offer implied tasteful nudes for those clients who are comfortable with that type of portrait.
